New Jeepney Laws

There are many laws that introduction of the new extravagant jeepneys.  The shortsighted law ordering their purchase and phasing out of the older individual iconic idiosyncratic and inexpensive models with the new A/C high tech front loading first world minibuses.

The law counterbalancing the jeepney introduction law is “the law of unintended consequences”. The unintended consequences are the following but not limited to them only:

  1. Fares must increase to cover the purchase price of the high tech mini bus pseudo jeepneys.
  2. Old jeepney owners will suffer a big financial loss as obsolescent.
  3. Running costs of the new extravagant “white elephant” jeepneys will be higher.  This includes fuel costs to run them and their A/C units in Filipino summers.
  4. They do not meet first.  World disabled access standards.  Western buses can “kneel” on their airbags to allow better access  for the disabled, infirm and the elderly.
  5.  Trip times will be longer as fare payment will be consecutive with payment occuring before driving.  Now payment occurs concurrently embarcation and disembarcation will take longer as it will be harder to load and unload people and freight.
  6.  Alternative transport modes will become more competitive with tricycles and grab being lower in cost that the “first class” new jeepneys.  You only have to look at airlines to see the seat ratio between first class and economy class or observe the rise of “no frills” carriers like Cebu, Scoot and Air Asia  X” to see that in the provinces 6 people on a tricycle is both cheaper as a whole and much cheaper pro -rata.
  7.  No more tourist brochures showing Philippines colorful jeepneys.  This law is a solution devised by a soulless beaurocrat without a B.Ec.

Trivia: The Pagsanjan Falls Postage Stamp Printed In Error (1932)

This is the  postage stamp notable for having an error was issued On May 3, 1932.  It is part of a set of seven stamps showing places of interest and landmarks in the Philippines,  at that time a United States territory. It is a postage stamp design error printed in the United States and intended to display an image of Pagsanjan Falls, a tourist attraction in Laguna province in the Philippines. However, the image on the stamp is actually of Vernal Fall in Yosemite National Park, California.

The error came about because the engraver, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, used a photograph of Vernal Fall as the basis for the image on the stamp because the wrong image had been supplied by the post office in Manila. At the time, July 1941, it was estimated that one and a half million copies had been printed even though a recall was considered.  No stamp was issued with a corrected image.

Our Lady Of Guadalupe Parish Church (Pagsanjan) Before The Renovation

A former visita of Lumban, the parish church of Pagsanjan was founded on November 12, 1687, by Franciscan missionary Father Agustin de la Magdalena as its first pastor (parish priest).   The first church was originally made of light materials like bamboo, nipa and wood in 1688 by natives of Pagsanjan under forced labor.  A larger and more solid church constructed from adobe with a red-tiled roof was built in 1690 with the help of Chinese Miguel Guan Co and chief alguacil alferez Alonzo Garcia to replace the original church.

Further renovations were conducted from 1847 to 1852 under Father Joaquin de Coria, who engineered the stone belfry and Romanesque dome.  In 1872, the church added a transept under the direction of Father Serafin Linares and Father Cipriano Bac.

The church was heavily damaged by American and Filipino military bombers on March 15, 1945 during World War II.   A replica of the church was constructed over its ruins, without the original dome, with the help of Manila Pagsanjenos under the leadership of Engr. German Yia and Dr. Rosendo Llamas.  Serious restoration efforts after the war took place in 1965 under Lipa Archbishop Alejandro Olalia. On April 6, 1969, Bishop Pedro Bantigue blessed the rebuilt church and consecrated the main altar.  Due to the devotion of the people of Pagsanjan and nearby towns, the Diocese of San Pablo declared Pagsanjan Church as the Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in 2012. Under the term of Monsignor Castillo from 2013 to the present, further renovations were carried out, including the church patio and construction of the choir loft and church gate.

The town of   Pagsanjan has became premiere tourists attraction in the province of Laguna because of its famous Pagsanjan Falls.  It’s really spectacular , unique, enchanting and amazing that’s why many tourists from around the world have been attracted to visit it and experience the thrill and adventure of shooting the rapids.  Surely, you’ll be having unusual stories to share  with your friends and family after the trip.

I want you to feel the actual encounter of visiting the Falls so  I’m sharing the following reviews made by  adventurous and fun-loving people who have been there.  I excerpted these for you from Yelp.Com :

“The best experience so far on my trip in the Philippines. If you are looking for places to go or experience in the Philippines, this would be just one of them. The waters come from the national falls of the Philippines. It’s about two hours from Manila due to the traffic but still a good experience”(Edna G).

“The canoe ride was amazing so I didn’t mind that I couldn’t get near Pagsanjan Falls. It was unlike I’ve ever experienced. You get motored to the rapids and once you’re near the rapids, 2 boatmen paddle you upriver. It’s a lot of work so tip them well.”(Jesicca G.)

“But I promise you, the journey to the falls is worth it. You will get to see a really picturesque area. Since it’s such a tourist attraction, there’s even a man made raft that could take you straight to the falls! I noticed though a lot of Koreans love going to this place (I wonder why). Now, the journey back up to land is the harder part (since it’s going up). Overall, this is a good day trip to do!”(Katrina E.)

“As an archipelago, the country isn’t blessed with the most spectacular of mountain ranges. We do have some nice ones, but the variety and shapes are limited. One side effect of having small mountain ranges is the lack of dramatic waterfalls. The waterfall is one of the most spectacular sights in nature, and though we don’t quite have anything to rival Niagra or Angel’s Falls, we do have a few good ones like Pagsanjan falls. It is one of the most famous in the country with its three tiers and beautiful view inside devil’s cave.
